Troy Davis Has Only Days
By News Desk | September 16, 2008
Eight days, until dawn will rise on the execution room, the injections will be readied and Troy Davis will loose his life. One more possibly innocent man will be robbed of a future by our flawed justice system, a life for a life. September 23 will be a day of horror in Georgia and the rest of the U.S.A, for death cannot be taken lightly.
Davis was charged with the murder of Michael Cooper and the assault of two others, a charge for which he is to be sentenced to death. However the very credibility of the case and the officials is called into question by the severe lack of evidence against this man. He has maintained his innocence sense the beginning, pleading his case upon seemingly deaf ears.
This particular is built solely on the wholly unreliable words of witnesses. There is very no physical evidence to link Davis to these heinous crimes. In fact the murder weapon, a keep piece of evidence in most cases, has yet to be found. This case is a hodgepodge of hearsay and coercion. Seven out of the nine witnesses who spoke against Davis recanted and/or contradicted their testimony. Others have sited police coercion and “bullying” as an influence on what they presented to the jury. Even more startling is the fat that their main witness against Davis is the other chief suspect in this event.
Davis’s family, friends, and even non-connected organizations such as Amnesty International have fought the courts ruling in the hopes of saving this man from a terrible fate. Regardless of their tireless efforts, the ruling still stands and Davis’s last moments draw ever nearer.
Who knows what will happen in the next eight days. Many will keep fighting for this man, whose guilt has yet to be properly proven.
