Being a Smoker Means No Plastic Surgery
By News Desk | September 10, 2008
It has been recently stated that people who smoke are at higher risks during plastic surgery as well as post plastic surgery. Dr. Alan Gold stated in an interview with CNN, that he as well as many surgeons will not operate on patients who are not able to stop smoking ahead of time. Also Dr. Sanjay Gupta stated in an interview that he tries not to operate on smokers because nicotine from cigarettes interrupts the circulation and causes problems with healing, may cause infection, and may increase swelling. It is very crucial as a smoker that they not only stop smoking but they avoid secondhand smoke as best they can. The rate of complications has gone down for patients who have quit earlier before the surgery. Most surgeons recommend trying to quit at least 2 to 4 weeks before and after surgery.
