China Arnold: Death Penalty Waved
By News Desk | September 5, 2008
The death penalty has been waved for China Arnold who was accused in 2005 of murdering her month old baby, Paris Talley. Talley was found cooked to death in Arnolds microwave. Arnold has been convicted of aggravated murder for killing Talley but her exact sentence is still unknown. The jury could not come to agree on the death penalty being appropriate so Judge Wiseman is now limited to sentencing Arnold to life in prison without parole, life without parole for at least 30 years, or life without parole for at least 25 years. She plans to impose her sentence Monday.
The defense argued that Arnold was drunk when the crime was committed and had no motive to kill her child. Although it has been stated that Arnold did not want her boyfriend to find out the baby was not his, if that’s not a motive I’m not sure what is. Then when Arnold did not get the death penalty, her defense said, “We’re relieved that an innocent person didn’t receive the death penalty.” Innocent? Didn’t the defense just say the reason she did it was because she was drunk? I have to agree with County Prosecutor David Franceschelli when he had the last word in court stating “If this is not the time for the death penalty, when is the time?”

I hate how us as tax payers are going to pay for her to be in jail for the rest of her life. It would be cheaper to kill her
