What does your Ipod say to you?
By News Desk | September 2, 2008
We all know that certain music goes with certain styles. Music that’s dark and emotional can be found on the ipod of a boy with dyed black hair, sallow skin, and eyeliner whose label is ‘emo.’ ‘Gangsters’ with pants at their knees and bling around their neck can be found with rap blaring in their ears. Music is a staple of each style but is it also the source?
In today’s pop culture, music has become as common as anything else, fading into the soundtrack of our daily lives. With one ear always plugged into an ipod, music is always flowing, its lyrics always passing through our minds. But does it do more than signal a style, and fill the silence? Does it have the power to influence our actions?
People are finding links between the lyrics played and the actions of the youth. Though we feel that music only personifies our own feelings, researchers have begun to wonder if music actually creates the feelings. With violence being so common in pop lyrics, is it any surprise that our streets are so dangerous. While we like to think that the music only records the story, its possible that it can prompt the violence.
Another focus of researchers is the correlation between a more sexual youth population and raunchy lyrics. They say when kids here about sex so often they begin to feel that they way the lyrics portray it is the way it is. Women are sex objects, meant to be procured and men are dominating figures lust-fully driven. The risqué nature of these subliminal messages is awakening in kids a desire for sex much to young.
Whether it is the music or just the culture, the youth of this world is becoming more violent and sexual and they have the music to personify their feelings.

there’s been this truth known in music since way back in the 1940’s and egven so long before. music as been the source for entertainment, sorrow, worship, and work. it eases the mind and invigorates it. what i refer to in the 40’s and beyond is the communistic styles. the loud speakers on every street corner so that the government, military, unonized, drone music can be heard no matter where you are at. it created a peaceful, subjective moral into the people.
