Is iTunes to Blame?
By News Desk | August 29, 2008
Music is a popular subject in the world today as it has been for some time now, but is iTunes ruining it for the artists? Kid Rock himself has stated that he finds it to be an unfair system with the way they are distributing music compared to the old method. He has actually decided to boycott iTunes all together and not allow them to put his new album up for download. Since the release of his album, “Rock ‘N’ Roll Jesus” which sold 1.7 million copies, records show his sales have steadily grown. He feels that if he had released the album on iTunes those sales would have shown up as a small sum of 99 cents because people would only by the albums single, “All Summer Long.” Personally I think celebrities should be happy with that. Honestly if you only like one song on an ablum there is no reason to buy the whole thing. Set aside from Kid Rock, other bands such as AC/DC have never allowed music to be posted on iTunes and still gained success from their albums. Same goes for Jay-Z who decided to boycott iTunes for his last album. In my opinion I’m not too sure it’s the programs fault for the loss in artists sales. I believe it’s those of us who do the downloading. Records have shown that cd sales have dropped since the program came into play. Not that I think iTunes is a bad idea, it would probably be smarter to limit the sales of single songs and just promote the entire album, that way artists would be happier and people could still avoid the need to go to a store and buy a cd.
