Pay as You Grow?

Government officials in Alabama are putting their foot down when it comes to those who are overweight. They are willing to give employees a 2-year head start, but in 2011 all overweight state workers will be charged a 25-dollar health insurance fee that would usually be free. Now come on, two years is enough time to get things in order for most people, right? With Alabama being the 2nd fattest state next to Mississippi, they feel it necessary to address the matter before it gets any worse. Honestly to me it’s a good idea. Not to offend anyone who is on the paying end of the situation but hopefully this will decrease the amount of obesity in the world today. It may also help to decrease medical bills involving blood, joint, and heart problems as well as diabetes. In many ways if you think about the situation it is a good idea to do this and I honestly think many states should look into it. Anything that will help decrease medical problems is a good idea in my book.

well i didn’t realize that alabama was doing that. i think other states should follow alabama’s lead, in this one thing, in striving for a healthier and more productive work environment.

i remember reading another article about lousiana [if im not mistaken] trying to pass a bill not allowing obese people in buffet restaurants.
i think its a good idea. its pretty sad that the government has to actually pass laws to make the people healthier.
good job alabama. maybe some other states will follow suit.

I think that fat people should be punished for being fat and that this is a very well written and researched article. I love the picture. It suits the article very well. Very nice job!

While i think this might help the obesity problem a little bit its all about money, i doubt the state really cares if your overweight as long as they pay less.

The title is great! The picture really adds to the article. Great idea, i believe. Seems like you really know what you’re writing about. Writing is a way of thinking, and yours is strong. Very well written article. Approved!

I am not to sure that I agree with some of you. I think overweight people deserve the exact same thing as people of regular weight. I think its discrimination to be honest. But I enjoyed the article.
