Tropical Storm Fay Claims Lives
By News Desk | August 25, 2008
Tropical Storm Fay didn’t have to become a full-blown hurricane to devastate much of Florida. Fay made a record fourth landfall on Florida’s panhandle causing even more damage. Tropical Storm Fay has already damaged crops and left Florida residents with inches of rain flooding their homes. Fay was expected to finally leave the state altogether on Saturday. Although Fay didn’t reach the intensity of a hurricane she left extensive damages with all the downpour that proved to be quite deadly. Tropical Storm Fay claimed the lives of ten people in Florida and twenty-three in Haiti and Dominican Republic. As for the deaths in Florida the victims’ identities were not immediately released nor was their cause of death. But at least three of the deaths were on Friday in weather related traffic accidents and one other known death was a surfer in Jacksonville. Also in Jacksonville, which is near the storms third landfall, the flooding was especially bad with some areas reporting up to 20 inches of rain. Although some areas had it worse than others most of Florida felt the wrath of Fay and hope for a more smooth ending to this years hurricane season.
