War, What is it Good For?
By newsguy | July 28, 2008
I don’t think I will ever be able to comprehend the cruel brutality of war. Nothing could be worth the systematic eradication of human beings! Not for the sake of a few more miles of land or the upper hand in a political situation. Life is much to precious to throw away with hardly a thought. This cannot be our destiny, to fight amongst ourselves do to the fabricated concept of a difference in race or because we believe our “god” wishes it. For one, race is a fabricated idea based on our own fear and mistrust of those who appear different. Genetically we are all part of the human race only our skin tone differs and that is only true do to our adaptation to the climates of our homelands. Also I simply refuse to believe that any god would wish to see blood spilt in their name. There is no honor in taking another’s life only cruelty and a blind dogmatic loyalty to an obviously flawed system.
Why do we study history? This is an age-old question. Why do we look back on the atrocities of our past, the ones it would be more comfortable for all to forget? Why do we watch videos on the Holocaust and study the tyranny of monarchs? As students we ask this of our history teachers and their answer, “We study history and past mistakes to help us avoid them in future.” Well this concept is good in theory but apparently the people in power must have slept through this class for all I see is the same mistakes repeated in different times and in different ways but essentially the same.
War does not solve our problems it just momentarily bandages it on the surface while underneath the wound festers never thoroughly cleaned. Bloodshed can’t end a conflict only hide it under a scarlet river. Fallen soldiers’ sacrifices won’t save our world only leave a tear in the eyes of mothers all over the world.
War hurts so many. The soldiers that die on both sides with cold metal in their once warm flesh. The ones that survive and come home but are never really the same. Their minds and their bodies bare the scars of their traumatic time spent under enemy fire. Every night they see the fallen bodies of their comrades, the lifeless forms of the innocent left to be found by love ones and the silver bullets that took so many lives. They are forever haunted by those images and the fear of an enemy around the corner. They loose more than limbs in war, they loose apart of themselves. How could they be whole and take away the lives of others? Also the innocent civilians whose whole lives are shattered as a side effect of war. Their homes are destroyed, their towns deserted, their cities left in pieces and their very life constantly threatened. Women and children die daily in the crossfire. Whole families cease to exist; the result of mans inability to coexist in harmony with others.
This is so sad that this is the mark that we are leaving behind. Life is worth so much and we take it away so carelessly. We are meant to do something great not fight like children using pawns instead of words and guns instead of fists. Life is beautiful, life is dear, it is worth living. Who knows if we will ever get this chance again please don’t throw it away because we can’t reconcile our differences.
If you want to know what prompted my spirited anti-war peace love and hope speech it was this video of a horrible slaughter. The massacre of human beings mindlessly executed with a cold precision that is chilling.
I am not saying you should watch it because unlike today’s movies and video games this is real. It is a visible record of the premature end of so many lives. All I am saying is that this must be stopped for the good of all people.
Oh, in answer to my title: Absolutely Nothing!!!!!!!!!!
