Nano-Bible or Tribbles? You Decide.
By newsguy | December 19, 2007
Let’s examine this story about Israeli scientists who’ve just managed to fit the entire Hebrew Bible on a surface smaller than a pinhead.
I have nothing against the Bible, in any of its incarnations. But this entire idea presents a cornucopia of puzzling questions. Did you find yourself asking the following as you read those five tiny paragraphs?
- Why? Alright, they answered that question in the last line—it’s part of an initiative to interest teenagers in nanoscience. But still I reiterate—why?
- The project’s director makes special note that the current Guinness record-holding Bible is 50 times bigger. Yet no mention whether or not they’ll be going after the coveted prize. Surely if you go to the trouble of fitting over 300,000 words on a pinhead, the first thing you do is call Guinness, right?
- Next up for the nano-Bible: 7 x 7 meter (22.9658793 x 22.9658793 feet for the rest of us) posters. I’m sure this will have tremendous appeal for the teenagers who’d otherwise be lining up for enlarged photos of Orlando Bloom with his underwear showing. Does that sound cynical? Sorry. I’m currently writing this with three OB posters above my head, but I swear he’s not showing his “bloomers” (pun) in any of them. Wait, what were we talking about?
- The scientists used particle beams to write the Bible onto the silicon chip. Now, I’m not even sure what particle beams are, but they sound like something that could be put to bigger and better uses. Like something out of Star Trek or, failing that, Ghostbusters. So the question here is why not use those particles for some sort of teleportation (surely that involves breaking us down into particles, after which I now know we can be used to write a Bible) or at the very least, tribbles?

Yes ,this last nanobible is amazing but it is not a breakthrought. I saw the first nanobible 2 years ago on this site www.crystal-bible.com. The major interrest is the possibility to wear close to your heart this edition and the possibility to read it with a personal pen microscope! Check this site out!
